It is sad that the council is in such a rush to 'fix' downtown Brantford that they are not realizing they are doing the opposite. I admit those buildings are an eye sore but destroying them is an extreme measure. You don't cut off your nose because there is a zit on it, because you recognize there is still a lot of value in your nose. The buildings may need some cosmetic changes to fit into the 'new' downtown but they definitely do not need to be erased. Especially considering they have now viable option to replace them with, at this point. The frustrating thing is it has already hurt great businesses like My Thai, but there is still that chance to not completely make this a loss.

What is not sad, is that lovely video with your daughter. That was absolutely heartwarming. You can truly feel the love between the both of you.

So, I replied to your coffee invitation but sadly never heard back from you. Do we still plan to do this at some point?

Some really insightful and though provoking posts, Dave. I really enjoyed reading your 'journey' over this last decade. I can definitely relate to being a 'different person' today compared to the one who started '00. I truly believe I am a better and more compassionate one today. I also enjoyed the Hopeful Skeptic review and always like hearing about others' life journeys and the changes they encounter.

Thanks for the comment back. It is our pleasure to share these ideas. They really helped us to understand our truth lens and understand those around us. We are equally anxious to see what comes after the valley. What we know is that we will find it out in humble community. We will be posting more regularly in the coming months on our blog www.throughtheriverbook.com. Hope you can be a part of that discussion.

Hey Nick. I'm kind of surprised that the publisher would feel that way. Your trip in a big way seems to be the catalyst that the whole book concept comes from. And until TSK finally writes a book, there is really nothing out there that explores emergence from a globe-traveling position (at least that I'm aware of). The marketing of the book is confusing in that sense. The backpacked traveller image on the cover and the overall feeling of movement and journey, but then to limit how much you can speak of actual footsteps? Bad move by IVP, imho.

Your writing in the final chapter seemed to be the most relaxed in the book. There wasn't as much repetition as there was in some of the other chapters.

Dave, thanks for the thoughts here. They are encouraging, especially about the last chapter.

I would have loved to told more about the trip, but as I was working with publishers beforehand there was a concern with travel books. Two separate publishers made it pretty clear they were not interested in a travelogue. Likewise felt the same way so we agreed to leave it scarce.

Did you feel it was too didactic or apologetic at any point? What was it about the last chapter that resonted so much?

Hey there! I'm very happy to have shared this story with you. Reflecting back it is incredible how much my journey echoes the movement you lay out in the book. I am interested to see what is "beyond the valley" in my life. The coming decade is a complete unknown to me. Thanks for writing this book. I plan to share it (and its lessons) with many people in my life.

David, thank you so much for sharing your truth journey. We have shared your blog post link with our audience as well. You did such a great job explaining how you have gone through the river and some key lessons you are learning.

You are right, our truth journeys are ongoing as we seek to understand the truth we know and humbly engage with others to grow in the truth we are learning.

So what is next as you continue your journey in 2010?

I like this, Dave.

Course, some of the authorship fightin' is more about things like whether, for instance, Daniel really wrote foreshadowing the Greek and Roman empires, or whether it was actually another pseudonymous writer doing it after the fact (which is a convenient way of stripping away Christians' argument for divine inspiration / genuine prophetic power of the text.) I think that's why some Christians make a bigger deal about it. Yeah?

You know what, I would interpret that quote (out of context, of course) to be contradictory to our desire to vet. Publishing today banks its money on the accepted and vetted authors "saying" something/anything, not so much on the quality of what has been "said" in the content. I personally have bought and read so many books based on who the author was, and then been let down by the quality of the content. There may have been a good nugget that was summarized in the first chapter that is then followed by so much hot air. Then I wonder why I paid 20 dollars to sit someone's name on my bookshelf.
