Olympics Start Tomorrow
Friday, August 8th, 2008But I’m not all that interested. Congratulations to all the athletes that will be competing. Though, I am extremely sad that all of your effort, determination, skill, perseverance and drive to excel against incredible odds is being used to sell cola and such. Sad.
Then there is the whole China thing. I haven’t really bought the whole, use the Olympics as a way to force China to clean up it’s human rights practices thing. It has always seemed like a misapplied force. Certainly there are actually effective ways to address these issues. And focusing on the 2008 games as the way it is finally going to happen must degrade actual human rights work done by groups such as Amnesty International.
Anyway, at the very least, I would like to catch a few of the basketball games. I’m rooting for either Spain or Argentina to take the gold away from America once again. Should be a great game either way though. My prediction – Spain over USA for the gold.
